Rosé wine from blue grapes: Rosé Cuvée Trilógia
Rosé wine does not come from pink grapes. Rosé Cuvée Trilógia is made from three blue varieties: Blaufränkisch, Dunaj and Merlot.
The colour of rosé comes from the skins, not from the juice. Blue grapes have flesh with almost no colour, and when the skins stay in the juice only briefly, the wine takes on a gentle pink tone instead of a full red. The shorter the contact, the paler the wine.
What each variety brings
Blaufränkisch, one of the most common varieties for rosé in Slovakia, gives the wine sparkling freshness and fruit. Dunaj, a Slovak variety, adds body. Merlot rounds it out with velvety smoothness. The result is an off-dry rosé with a juicy fruit character and medium fullness. It has an approachable taste with a little residual sugar, yet it keeps its freshness.
How to serve it
Rosé tastes best chilled to 8 to 10 °C. This is a wine for warm weather: for the terrace, for lunch outdoors, for the first spring evenings and for the heat of summer. The off-dry style helps it, because at a lower temperature the light residual sugar reads as fresh rather than sweet.
It suits salads, grilled vegetables, white meat, fish and lighter summer plates. It also works with no food at all, simply alongside conversation.
Who it is for
Rosé Cuvée Trilógia is for those who want something between white and red: the aroma and fruit of blue varieties, with the lightness of a white. Anyone who likes dry rosé will find a slightly rounder, more approachable version here.
Rosé Cuvée Trilógia is part of the Trilógia range from Villa Vino Rača. You will find it in our online shop. More about what a cuvée is and why winemakers blend varieties.
